Dr. Zbigniew Adam Pietrzyk died on December 16, 2007
 Dr.
Zbigniew A. Pietrzyk, an active member of the Polish
community and a longtime member of the Polish Home Assn.
and the Solidarity Assn., died on December 16, 2007,
after a long illness; he was 72.
Dr. Pietrzyk graduated
from the Warsaw Technical University and made career as
a physicist. He was Professor Emeritus of the University
of Washington and also Professor Emeritus of the ETH in
Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Pietrzyk was the main Seattle
activist organizing support for the underground
Solidarity movement during the martial law period in
Poland in early 1980s. Among others, he was instrumental
to creating Friends of Solidarity TV in Seattle and
served as the Polish Home Assn. vice-President for
Solidarity support. Dr. Pietrzyk also received the
Solidarity Medal awarded for an exceptional support for
the Solidarity movement from beyond borders of Poland.
In recent years he was active as a volunteer and
supporter of Polish Home Foundation in Seattle.
Dr. Pietrzyk is survived by his brother Boleslaw with wife
Claire and children Diane, Nicolas and Guillaume of
France/Switzerland and by his sister Barbara Pietrzyk of
Szczecin, Poland.
Memorial
Service:
on December 19, at
12:30 pm at the Hoffner, Fisher & Harvey
Funeral Home, 508 N. 36th St in Seattle
(Fremont). A reception will follow at
the Polish Home in Seattle.
Interment:
at a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the Family
asks for donations to Polish Home Foundation, 1714 18th
Ave, Seattle, WA 98122. |

Annual Fall Bazaar at PHA, Saturday,
November
3rd and Sunday, November 4th, noon – 7 pm
Yes, this is 47th
Annual Fall Polish Bazaar! It is a yearly event organized by
the Ladies Auxiliary.
The booths upstairs will offer Polish crystal bowl and vases,
Boleslawiec pottery, amber and silver
jewelry, pottery, crafts, books and much more.
Downstairs you can enjoy traditional Polish dishes of pierogi,
sausage, cabbage rolls etc. served by the young generation of
waiters clad in Polish folk costumes. You can also buy home made
desserts and pastries. Most of the Puget Sound area Polish
organizations would have their booths or info posted. This is
usually a quite crowded event, so come early!
Choir "Vivat
Musica!" will sing on Saturday at 2 pm.

Prof. Emerita Pia Friedrich
Born Nov 5, 1923 Cremona, Italy – Died Oct 1, 2007
Seattle, Washington
 Wife,
mother, nonna, teacher and friend.
A very long standing friend of
the Polish Home and member of the Ladies Auxiliary, she
has been a active worker in the community until the
decline of her health.
Driven by a keen intellect and a
commitment to education, she first taught in Buenos
Aires, Argentina, and later at the University of
Washington as professor of Italian.
Upon her marriage to her husband
Jerzy she developed a keen appreciation of Polish
culture and became a fluent speaker of the polish
language. She leaves behind her husband of 61 years
Jerzy, son Alex, daughter Vivien Savojni, daughter in
law Susie and son in law Adriano. She is also survived
by her four beloved grandchildren: Alexander, Paul, Mark
and Laura. She will be remembered for countless hours
spent at the Polish Bazaar. Upon her request, no
services will be held, but you can donated in her memory
to Polish Home Foundation toward PHA Remodeling Fund |

August 26th 2006, 12:00PM - PHA Picnic
This is the main picnic of the summer for the Polish
community of Seattle linked to the Polish Home Association.
Come and share good food and fun! There will be grills
and picnic tables available as well as free drinks,
hamburgers and hot dogs for kids and teenagers. A casual
volleyball game is a tradition at the PHA picnics and
some people always try to play soccer among the bushes,
so get your sports shoes ready! Everybody is invited.
Where: shelter #2 at the
Lincoln Park in Seattle, watch for a Polish flag and
a PHA banner; admission free, bringing your food & drink
to share is optional but welcomed |

traditional end-of-the-summer cleanup of the PH
facilities before the new season. The building needs a
lot of attention and loving care, both inside and
outside. Afterwards, lunch will be served for all the
volunteers. Please come and help to clean, spit and
polish our common treasure, the Polish Home!

Armed Forces are honored on August 15, the anniversary
of the decisive Battle of Warsaw in the Polish-Soviet
War in 1920. This year a very special celebration of the
Soldier's Day will take place at the main campfire pit
at the Camp Long. The Polish Home and the Polish Scout
Troop Kaszuby invites to a bonfire with Polish WWII
veterans.

need to apply for a Polish passport in accordance with the new
passport law, the Polish Consulate in Los Angeles will hold a
special meeting at the Polish Home Association 1714 18th
Avenue, Seattle, WA 98122 on Saturday, June 23, 2007, from 10
a.m.. until 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 24, 2007 from 11.00 a.m.
until 5 p.m to accept applications for Polish passports.

Home is accepting the bids for the following, separate
projects:
1. Scope of work for
installation of porcelain floor tiles in Upper Bar
- removal of
existing flooring (VCT)
- installment of new cement board/leveling the floor
- installation of porcelain tiles 16"x16"
- installation of 4" floor base cut out of porcelain tiles
Total floor area about 100sf.
(2) tiles are in the cabinet under sink for viewing.
2. Scope of work for
support the floor at Kitchen and Conference Room
- provide (8) 4x4 wood posts
on pre-cast conc. pire blocks in one row in the crawl space
under existing floor system
- attach 4x8 beams between
- attach 2x10 floor joists @ 16"o.c.
- install 2x10 blkg. between new joists on both sides
3. Scope of work
for reinforcement of portions of foundation walls
under Kitchen and Conference Room
-
backfill existing foundations with lean concrete (CDF) or
compacted structural fill areas where excavations exposed
foundation walls.
4. Scope of work
for Upper Stage remodel
- electrical demo of exist
light fixtures and conduits (with help of Polish
Home electrical consultants)
- demolition of wood canopy above the stage
- demo of the existing stage rounded edge with
trim only
- new framing (15 inches high, to match
existingstage height) to square the edge of stage
and plywood sheathing (new hardwood floor fill-ins
and finish will be provided by flooring contractor )
- new decorative plywood sheathing over new portal
framing around back stage
- new tackable wall paneling around the opening of
recessed back stage and on ceiling of back stage

Polish-Americans with a telethon on March 7,
2007. The event runs from 7 pm till 10:30 pm and
is a fundraiser for the station. There will be
two Polish documentaries aired during the event:

Music and Dance
from Poland at 9 pm. About 10-12
