„All Saint Day”, Thursday, November 1st , 2012

All Saints’ Day is a festival which has been celebrated in Poland and the rest of the Catholic world for many centuries. All Saints Day is a national holiday and a day when people all over Poland visit the graves of loved ones and place candles and flowers on graves.

The special candles, which can burn for many hours, are placed there so that departed souls can find their way through the darkness. Cemeteries are lit by many hundreds of these candles and at night the cemeteries can often be seen glowing from long distances. Many Poles travel long distances to visit family graves and to remember the dead. The holiday is also sometimes known as the Day of the Dead.

Dear Members of the Polish Home Association,

The Northwest Council of the Chopin Foundation is thrilled to present its annual Chopin Festival Winner's Concert at the Polish Cultural Center, Sunday, February 5th at 2:30 PM.

It has been several years since this concert has been held at the Dom Polski and the Foundation is delighted to return. It is with the greatest pleasure that the Chopin Foundation would like to invite all the members of the Polish Home Association, the Polish Home Foundation, and the Ladies Auxiliary to attend this entertaining program.

Admission is free and the auditorium will open at 2 PM.

The Chopin Festival Competition will be held Friday and Saturday, February 3rd and 4th, at the downtown Sherman Clay Piano Store. From this arduous competition approximately one dozen young pianists will be selected from a field of nearly 120 students by several highly esteemed judges. These talented few are the young pianists who will perform Sunday at the Winner's Concert. Also included in the concert will be the winner of the Concerto Division Competition, allowing him/her to perform a selection from one of these rarely heard works by Chopin accompanied by a professional string quartet.

This is exactly the format Chopin first used in Warsaw to premiere his Concerti to the world in 1829 and 1830 and thus presents a unique opportunity to experience this beautiful music as he had originally intended.

It is only proper that the Chopin Foundation present this culturally important concert, performed by our community's finest young pianists, at the Polish Cultural Center.

It is with the Polish Community of our city where the true spirit of Chopin's music resides and with whom these fine pianists can grasp the real depth of admiration for Chopin's genius. Please honor us with your presence!

Alison Bell, President Northwest Council of the Chopin Foundation of the United States

We support candidacy of Mr. Golubiec and would like to ask all members to vote for him.

The Trustees and Officers would like to submit for your approval several changes to the PHA Bylaws. Current version of PHA Bylaws was approved in 2001 and served us well for over 10 years. The proposed changes would allow all PHA members to participate in works of PHA and polish Cultural center as Officers and Trustees. We are also proposing to extend the terms of the office for PHA Officers and Trustees from one year to two years. We are convinced that this will allow the Officers and Trustees to provide better service for the PHA and Polish Cultural center.
